It just so happens that I have a copy of Guzziology here at work, yeah, I
know, get to work...
Anyways, It is a vent for your rr drive. Someone through the years has done
this update for you
although the book specifies this for spine frames. It looks as though in 93
Guzzi sealed off the rr drive from the swingarm. This increased the pressure
and created leaks. Maybe something to do with the mysterious migrating oil
or something to do with this full floating rr drive he mentions. Not sure
BUT maybe a PO thought this would help one way or the other. It says to hook
up a tube to the nipple (preferably clear), route this up along the torque
arm and frame(again for spine frame)for a bit.It look as though it would end
somewhere around seat height.
Don't know what to tell you. 1) the PO might've known what he was doing and
solved a gasket leak problem OR maybe just someone with too much time on
there hands. 2)You could always put a regular fill plug and see if it still
leaks.
Is it like a brake bleeder, something you can turn to open? If so maybe it
was shut and you developed a leak, and that's why the PO vented it?

I've got a V700 and it keeps throwing oil out of the rear and onto the rear
wheel and tire.
I looked at it and noticed that the filler cap is a threaded brass nut with
a hole in the middle with a nipple for some kind of hose.
Is this a vent for these things? I suspect that the oil is coming out of
that hole but I don't want to plug it if it is a necessary vent.
I looked at some others, listed on ebay and the parts manual, and none of
them have vented fill plugs.
If I do need it, how do I stop it from spitting oil?
If I don't need it vented, anyone have a cheap fill plug for sale?
