Subject: clutch problem?

Hi again. I have been braking in new front break
shoes. If they turn out good, I'll let you know where
I got them. If they don't, I'm afraid it will be due
to my inexperience fitting new shoes to mechanical
brakes.

My inexperience in this area may have caused me a new
problem, and it sounds like it might be a BIG one. I
have been filing the high spots on the new shoes then
going for short rides (no more the 10 miles) to
determine how well the shoes are contacting the drums.
The lower shoe has been dragging a lot and I keep
filling it a little further each time, making
incremental changes. The were starting to improve, but
during my last jaunt a new problem arose: a loud
grinding sound whenever I am using the clutch. The
engine runs fine. There is no grinding with the clutch
in or with the clutch out and the tranny in neutral.
The grinding only occurs when I am shifting gears. If
I put the bike on the center stand, it grinds less
while shifting, and doesn't grind at all while in gear
(spinning the rear wheel). So I am inclined to think
this is a clutch problem. Anyone ever have this happen
to them? Can you tell me just what is going on inside
there?

Thanks!
