Started up the Eldo too on Sunday for the first time since December. A
little choke, and she turned right over. Gave a some throttle, and the
backfire sounded like the OK Corral. Typical until she warms up for me.
What does cause this?

I'll weigh in here with a guess that it has to do with your points.
When they sit over the winter, they sometimes get kinda corroded,
especially if they happened to have stopped in the closed position when
you last shut it down. A little condensation in the distributor cap can
have a similar effect, as can a short in a plug wire or perhaps a bad
sparkplug.
Time for a tuneup!

Yesterday the first nice day that I had a chance to get out I had a hard

time starting my 73 eldo. The battery is fine and it started right up,
but until it warmed up a bit it sputtered, popped, and backfired quite a

lot running rather ragged. After that it ran fine. Any ideas what might
be the cause? I never had this problem before.
