Thanks Bill and all,

Good advice. I suspect there are lots of different theories and techniques.
I personally have attached the gasket to one side with sealant and then
bolted the part down to a slightly lubricated side. I was told that this
would prevent the gasket from moving. Fact or fiction...who knows but I have
done this on my last two Ambos and the bikes are dry to this date.

I am always interested in what techniques people use in their projects.
Thanks all for the input....Ian

Ian.. I just did oil pan and timing cover.. and based on what I
percieved to be the majority opinion when I asked the question... a
little grease on the gasket... no leaks yet.. but I've only done about a
hundred miles since...

OK folks. As I get ready to bolt the engine together I was
wondering what
the thoughts were on the use of gasket sealant.

Some say not to use it at all. Others say to use it to secure
the gasket to
one part and not on the other.

I know that you do not use sealant on the heads but what about
parts like
the rear bearing? By the way I know that the lower two bolt
holes need to be
sealed on the rear bearing. What about oil pan and timing cover?

Just curious what the consensus is.
