Sorry if this has been discussed before, but this is my first loopframe
rebuild. I have the engine down, cleaned, measured, and ready for
reassembly. The main bearings are measuring well within limits for
original size, but I'm not sure about the surface. It's not smooth and
shiney, more like a frosted aluminum color. There is some slight
roughness that you can see and feel with your fingers, but no scoring or
deep grooves, etc. Question is; do these bearings have a polished
surface originally? How important is it? I'm debating trying to polish
the inside if I can do it and not exceed the maximum ID limit. I would
rather not do anything if it's not required, I hate to increase the ID
of these bearings. Do I have to get new bearings? Is there a less
expensive alternative than the several hundred dollar price I've been
looking at?
