Thanks for the replies... I'm going to try the 'Bob Krueger' method
first.. as it does look like the Valtek can go on from the 'outside',
if I can get the old one out. If that doesn't work, I'll suck it up..
and do the full boat as detailed by Jason. Thanks again and Merry
Christmas...Bill

Bill, I don't know how different the inside of the Eldo timing chest is vs Tonti frames. I put a Valtek tensioner in my 850T a few yrs back without removing the chain, or any pulleys. You need to bend the old tensioner to get it out. I had to grind down a socket to fit under a sprocket, or something, near the bottom. It's been a while. The new tensioner is really a tight fit. It is not easy, but it was doable.
I've got all the books I can get my hands on.. but, for some reason was
thinking I could replace the tensioner without removing the
chain/sprockets. That ain't so I guess after viewing the situation? I'm
new at this, so, to all you old-timers, please be kind. The good news is
that I did check the old tensioner and it is a gooey, disentigrating
mess. I've got the new tensioner ( a valtek), seal and gasket.. would
any of you with a kind heart, and the Christmas spirit, walk me through
it....as to where I go from here?.. the timing cover is off and I'm
looking at the gears... it's a '74 Eldo, by the way.. For you novices
out there, take it from me.. check out your tensioner.. you'd be amazed
what a mess I found... thanks, Bill

======)> Moto Guzzi Correspondence List WEB<(======
Find Moto Guzzi Classified ADs, Moto Guzzi Books, Links, & Guzzi
