Could it be bits of old gasket material or old gasket sealing material
(the hardening variety)? Since my Eldo has timing gears, I'm not
familiar with a chain and it's tensioner. But old rubber can get to be
pretty brittle especially when exposed to lots heat and time.

Is it the consensus that this stuff is probably pieces of my tensioner (I do have a chain) as Fred mentioned. If so, I guess I'll dive in with a new tensioner. Fred mentioned also maybe oil sludge.. does sludge take on this brittle consistency... again I can break the stuff up with my thumb nail. Anyway... I guess no matter what, I need to check the tensioner... thanks to everyone for your suggestions..... Bill |
