Welcome Kevin,
I was just reading about you becoming the NM Rep. today! From your "kinder and gentler" comment I assume you've been on the MGCL list. Me too, for a short while until I discovered this one. I think you'll find we're much more laid back and stay on topic most of the time. Don't think you'll find a better group of enthusiasts than on this list! If you have a comment, tip or other info. to pass along by all means jump in and post. Cheers,
Charlie.

First, let me say that I come in peace...and yearn for a "Kinder and Gentler" world...I probably won't post much or hassle anybody... I owned and rode a restored, almost original '74 Eldorado California model from around 1990 to 1993. I rode this bike to the '91 MGNOC National in Redmond, OR and '92 National in Camp Verde, AZ from Austin, TX. The Eldo got pretty sick a few times, but never left me walking. This is the only bike I regret selling. It showed 30,000 when I bought it and 75,000 when I sold it. This was during my motorcycling heydey when I owned no car (girlfriends did) and usually had 2-3 European bikes at a time and rode 25-30K miles per year. That was before I had a business, owned a house, had a wife, and lived somewhere without snowfall (just excuses, I know). Details about my former Eldo include: Dual chrome fenders with black stick-on pinstripes Single RH front disk brake w/ 14mm Brembo master cylinder Original black tank w/ redone white pinstripes NOS (painted black) sidecovers (original knobs) w/ stick-on decals Behind/below rider LH ignition switch (starter button on RH bar) Locking police sidestand Original (I was told) footboards with chrome bullets & rails Front crash bars Single, large-face speedo/polished Al alloy housing 4-way flashers Original chrome Lucas turn signals Chrome Tomaselli throttle w/ grub screw Wider, more pulled back original police bars LH light/horn/TS switch replaced with early Jap switch White Wixom bags w/ black pinstripes, solid chrome bag rails Everything else was pretty much there and original, as I remember The bike had been stripped to the frame, which was repainted black. The cylinders had been resleeved with NiFe sleeves from LA Sleeve Co, honed to fit original pistons, heads redone, engine bearings replaced or polished out, the trans had been disassembled & reshimmed, rear drive resealed. **The top of the crankcase where the generator rests had been ground down to eliminate the air gap above the gen** Over my term of ownership I added/removed a National Cycle lexan windshield, spotlights, luggage rack for camping trips, 13" S&W air shocks, LH front hub cap, 12" Magura master cyliner, NOS mufflers. I went faster than I should have with that Eldo on the back roads of the Texas Hill Country, but what the hell, I made it. See, the last one always had to buy the first round at Luckenbach! That's about all I can think of. Oh, I've still got quite a few hard copy pics of that bike if you're interested. When it left it took part of my heart with it. Come see me, Kevin Hamann MGNOC NM Rep |
