| If I have a coil that does not have the 3 ohm internal resistor can I add an external one?

Avoid coils with less than 3.0 Ohms resistance DC . The classic Bosch "blue coil" is a proven performer and Blue Streak ,NAPA , Borg Warner etc 12 volt coils from breaker ignition cars designed for use WITHOUT EXTERNAL BALLAST resistor should serve the purpose. If you happen to run a 12 volt coil made for use with a ballast resistor it will not only draw too much current ,they can actually burst if you happen to walk off while the ignition is on and the points happen to be closed. The oil makes a mess and you ain't goin nowhere till you get a new coil !
When you say 3 Ohm internal resistance are you referring to the primary coil resistance or does the coil have a 3 Ohm resistor built in and in series with the primary ? andy hill wrote:

Hey...does anyone know what the ohm rating on a MG Coil is? I am running a MSD Blaster W resistor (my basket had no coil) and I would like to check figures againt stock. I don't want to weld my points together constantly. Thanks in advance... 74 4ls Police |
