It is obvious that the flywheel bolts havent sheared because the engine
starts, but these can , and do loosen . I took a buddies beemer out once, hit
second gear hard and thought the crank was gonna come right outa the engine.
As we tore it down we found ( much to my delite) that ALL of the flywheel
bolts had loosened to the point that you could rock the flywheel on the end
of the crank. Soooo... take the little black plug on the right side of the
tranny out and try to rock the flywheel ...horizontally.. not vertically,
vertically will just turn the engine over . If you get any movement, that is
where I would focus my efforts.
