Actually the difference is not a huge concern. If you are checking the clearance on a medium mileage engine the old fashoined way ,with "feeler gages" you are probably about .002" open anyway. The wear between the radius of the rocker tip and the worn valve stem end will give a reading somewhat below the actual clearance since the feeler cannot conform to the shape completely. A check with a good dial indicator usually shows the feeler gage set rockers to be off by .0015 > .003" anyway. In any event the .006" intake/ .008 exhaust are the settings I have used for years when setting up with feeler gages and has worked very well. Greg Field wrote:
