While waiting for my timing chain and tensioner to arrive I thought I'd
experiment on the aluminum parts to see if i could get them to look a
little better. I took the generator belt cover and wire brushed all the
surface corosion off. Next used some coarse steel wool to smoth it down
a bit. I then started with the wet/dry sand paper, going from 200
through 400, 800 and finally 1000 grit. It came out nice and smooth and
shiny. The final touch was to spray on some clear coat DUPLICOLOR Enging
paint (good to 400 degrees). I put on 3 coats. I think it came out
pretty well. Now we'll have to see how it lasts. Could the valve covers
be next?
