bit difficult to tell without seeing them, but they sound ok to me.
i'd say any deposit at all from light grey to brown is fine. no deposit
means it's too hot in there.
it doesn't take long to get a reading. mile or two maybe, but remember
you'll only get a reading for the throttle position you were riding at.

Subject: Spark Plug Reading
Good Morning All, Wanted to get a reading/opinions on my new spark plugs. Installed the NGK BP6ES' as prescribed by the manual and Mark Ethridge (saw his post some time back). My mechanic had a set of B7ES' in there prior, seemed OK, but they were black/brown when I pulled them after only a few hundred miles. 1st, how long does it take to get a reading on plugs? I've got about 100 miles on these new sets. When I pulled them, I was glad to see they are showing the exact same type of wear, but they look a bit strange to me, not really matching what the book readings say. They are both clean mostly (probably because they are new), but half of the ceramic center is white/tan, the other half has is brown, thought it was "blistering" as the book says, but when I touched it with my nail, it was almost like trying to scrape dried syrup off of a table top - perhaps that is blistering? Bike seems to run fine, but I wonder if I need to readjust the fuel mixture? Thoughts? Thanx! Keith Ruff 71 Police Ambassador - NJ |
