origional wires were 8mm If you buy wire today its 7mm. There are a few
places you can get 8mm wire and connectors or put an oring on 7mm wire inside
the boot and it will keep the wire in the dist cap and keep water out B

You may have a cracked contact.
The contacts at the end of the plug wires need to have some spring in them to
give contact pressure between it and the receptacle in the dist cap. There
are different designs of contacts. I believe the original contact tips were
a bulb type with the tip soldered on. Aftermarket contacts are a type you
crimp onto the wire end.
If you have the bulb type , you may want to try to gently squeeze the contact
to oval it a bit but not squash it too far. If you have the aftermarket type
with the pair of contact wings, you can try to spread them out a bit more
than they are. This will either fix the problem or will quickly show you if
you have a crack. If so, you'll have to replace them.
Good Luck
