I tend to think the steering head bearings have nothing to
do with this. What you need to do and this may not rid you of all your
'twisting', a fork brace is designed to do that, is the following:
1) loosen all pinch bolts, fork caps, fender bolts on your front end
with the exception of the steering head (would not hurt to check this later
on its own)
2) bounce the front end a couple of times
3) align the wheel and handlebars
4) bounce the front end again
5) check alignment again
6) systematically tighten all of the loosened nuts and bolts. That is,
tighten them all at the same rate, as in not tightening one completely and
moving to the next one.
7) See if this helps
8) You may find that one or more of your fender bolts were loose. Where
the fender bolts to the forks acts as a fork brace of sorts. You probably
will still have a small amount of flex left. Nature of the beast.
9) Now while youre at it check your steering head bearings.
10) Jack the front end up a little (get the front tire off the ground)
and tighten the locknut down until the forks just begin to not fall to the
side easily on their own when turned from side to side.
