Over on the Alfa list, there is thread going on about using the
originally spec'd tranny lube, Shell Spirax 80-90, instead of all the
new fangled lubes. These include Mobil 1, Redline, etc. A respected
rebuilder of trannys (and lightener of gears) sez that he likes for
people not to use Spirax for that just gives him more business....;-}
He's the one that recommends Spirax....smoother shifting, less leaks,
and less wear on the syncros & gears. Other list members have switched
from other lubes (synthetic and dino-base) and have reported good things
from the change.
Looking at the Eldo owners manual, I fournd that Spirax is the tranny
lube of choice by MG. Has anyone compared Spirax against other tranny
lubes and is there a difference? Me, I'm running Mobil 1 right now
(Mobil 1 in one Alfa and Redline in the other).
