I did some light puttering in the garage today. Put on decals fetched
gas and glued one of the rubber instrument panel holders back together.
This is the second new one I had that has come apart. The old ones were
virtually indestructable, yielding only to overwhelming force. This
experience, plus my failed brand new replacement brake light switch
makes me wonder if the pattern parts are not what they could be.
The loops were sure built to last. I got my regulator and generator of
the same parts bike and they were super ultra crusty after 30 years of
neglect. I hit them both with the wire wheel and bolted up the
regulator with no other treatment.
The generator got some of my special love. I took my ever-ready made in
China angle grinder and took a big chunk out of the generator case so it
would clear my twin point distributor. Sparks and molten chunks flew
here and there and when I was done I bolted that up. Of course both
regulator and generator are working fine. It's the brand new parts that
fall apart and short circuit.
My new Stucchi double seat has my wife gazing longingly at the ripped
and duct taped job in the corner. The Stucchi? It's firm, I guess you
could say.
Despite my whingeing I am actually totally thrilled with my new (old?)
bike. I hope to be posing proudly at the now famous Ear Inn Tuesday
night.
