Can't comment on the keepers as I haven't dismantled a head yet.

As for gaskets...I have found it easier and generally cheaper to buy the
whole kit (top or complete depending on how far you are going) than to
buy just the ones you need as you go. I always end up forgetting at
least one and having to make another trip.

How much of the gaskets are you replacing? I would suggest doing the
whole thing rather than just the top. They are probably okay on the
mains, but suppose they arent and you have to pull the whole thing apart
again to get to a leaking main seal? And do the tranny seals and return
spring while you are there. Another side advantage is you get to inspect
everything.

In the end it's your thang.

Ok,

I'm planning to get ready to start puttin the parts together. That
would
be the '73 Eldorado I have had in boxes for over 15 yrs. I did remove
the heads to make sure the cylinders looked OK.

Tommorow I plan to order a copy of Guzziology as well as some gaskets.

I've been window-shopping guzzi parts sites for some time, and have seen
gaskets come in a dazzling variety of combinations. I can get
individual gaskets, top-end gasket sets, whole engine and tranny gasket
sets.....I have seen the top end set one place for about the price of
the whole set at another place.

I'm a bit confused by it all and would appreciate any insight from
other's experience.

A side note: the little valve keepers. My book says they should be
replace if the head is taken apart. I know it isn't a big deal, but all
this stuff adds up and these little suckers are $5 a piece for a total
of $40 for such a little thing. Do y'all always replace these?

Thanks in advance,

Terry Scanlon
