I found that by putting one end in first and holding it thru the hole, you can then press the other end in.

I am re-assembling my drum brake Eldo front forks. Getting that spring ring out of the top of the fork lower was pretty easy. So far, getting it re-installed has been quite the contrary. Can anybody give me any advice on how to compress those rings to get them re-installed? The answer "You need a special tool" is unacceptable. :-)
