Rich,
On my bike the two petcocks were identical externally, but inside the
tank they had two different length standpipes. I put the "normal"
running petcock on the right, and the reserve petcock on the left. This
makes it possible to turn the reserve on while still keeping a hand on
the throttle. If I recall properly, the bottom hole on the regular
standpipe is about one inch above the bottom of the tank, while the
lowest hole in the reserve pipe is about .25 inch up. This gives me
almost one gallon on the reserve and consequently few surprises.

Folks: I just got a '73 Eldo and I'm trying to familiarize myself with the controls etc. I'm a little confused about the fuel petcocks. The manual says use one for routine riding the other as a reserve. But how do I know which one is the reserve and which is the "normal" one without running out of gas? Neither the owner's manual or the service manual says which is which. Thanks for help. More to follow, I'm sure. Rich A |
