Has Ian gotten through with relocating? |
Hi All,
Thanks for thinking about me guys. I guess I should have checked in sooner
but I've been in a bit of a funk trying to get settled in.
I have finally gotten settled into my new place and have the Loops in the
garage. I guess the "move in" is official now! :-)
I left Montreal on the 31st and was lucky not to have had the snow that was
forecasted. They had originally said snow from Syracuse, NY through
Scranton, Pa. What I ended up getting was snow from Watertown to Syracuse.
After that it was rain. I was lucky. Unfortunatly the salt had been thrown
down and the bikes got hit bad. I was an idiot not to have heeded the
warnings of Elisabeth (go ahead and rub it in...I deserve it!) and the bikes
got oxidized up pretty badly. After living most of my life in the north I
was surprised at how quickly the salt works on the metals. Nothing a few
hours with Mother's in hand won't cure.
After staying with Dave the first night and my cousin's the second night I
arrived in Dahlonega and settled into the Econolodge Motel. I was lucky to
have friend's that had a carport so the bikes could stay dry.
I went riding with my friend's up into the mountains the first Sat after
arriving. Inspite of the cruddy look the 69 Ambo took on she started right
up and ran like a top. It sure was fun tootin' those mountain roads. I was
with a group of five other riders...friends of my friend. Well...after a
nice lunch at a nice little spot called Turner's Corners we were on our way
back. Two of the Sport riders raced ahead and when I came around the corner
there were two riders but only one bike. This one guy had lost control of
his bike and left the road. Miraculously (sp?) the guy didn't follow his
bike down the 20 foot embankment and was unhurt. I mean this guy didn't even
have a scratch on him. Well....looking at the bike at the bottom of this
ditch you would think that the thing was ruined. We hauled the thing up to
the road (I still can't believe that five of us did it) and the bike started
up and the guy rode it home. Other than the plastic being damaged the bike
was ok. The guy is lucky to be alive and I learned my first good lesson in
riding in the mountains.....stay inside the envelope! :-) Easy to do on a
Loop.
Since that I have tooted around on the bikes a bit. I got the 70 Ambo
running and will use that as my main ride while I get the 69 up and ready
for my ride to the MGNA Open House in April. I am liking it here in Ga but I
am not liking the fact that I need to take a driving and riding test to get
my licence here....after 20 years of experience! People say that it is the
price to pay for cheap gas (88 cents a gallon). I escaped the beauraucracy
of my government to have to deal with it here. Yuck! Other than that things
have been going well.
I miss my riding buddies of old but I'm looking forward to hooking up with
some of my fellow riders here in the area. If any of you are in the area or
are planning to be in the area give me a call. I have lots of garage and
floor space.
