Hi Dave congrats on an excellent choice.
To start with the idle mixture screws out about 2 turns from fully
closed. Now for a pretty easy way to get the carbs nearly perfectly
synched and a starting idle stop ,listenup.

Pick up a 1/8 inch drill bit or drill rod and a 1/4 to 3/8 drill bit
or drill rod. They will be used a gages to check the throttle opening.
First make sure you have about 1/4 inch end play in the throttle
cables ,both carbs. You will set the final end ply later.
Now using the smooth end of the 1/8 drill as a gage Carefully set the
throttle stop on the Right side carb until the drill just passes thru
the largest part of the slide opening. Now repeat this on the Left carb
. You now have a close setting for idle speed with the carbs
mechanically synched at IDLE .
Next we will adjust the synch on the cable pull.
Twist the throttle enough to allow the 1/4 inch drill to just slip into
the widest part of the slide opening on the right hand carb ,now use the
set screw on the bottom of the twist grip to hold that setting. Re check
and fine tune with the Right hand cable adjuster. Now move over to the
Left carb and using the Left hand cable adjuster to set the left slide
to the same opening as the right carb.
Now release the lock screw and chec for cable free play at idle , too
much is better than not enough. You will want about 1/8 inch or so free
play. If you need to increase or decrease just move both adjusters
equally as needed and go back and readjust the 1/4 inch setting to
insure the carbs are still synched.
When you start and run the engine the Idle speed will be close to the
recomended if you change the idle speed tops move them both the same
amount each time ,IE 1/4 turn in on left 1/4 in on right ,check speed
and readjust until satisfactory .
Set the mixture needles in the usual way . If you have any vacume leaks
of course the system will never be right.

It sound like a lot ,but it goes very quickly. I have been using
this method for over thirty years ,I have checked it with everything
from Mercury sticks to Sun Analyzers (When I worked for Sun Electric
Corp.) It works well and on normal healthy engines mechanical synch is
excellent synch.

Just bought and put together my first loopframe guzzi. A 1972 basket
case
Eldorado. I don't think I am getting enough fuel to the cylinders. Can

anyone give me advice as to a starting point for the adjustment screw
for
each carb?

Thanks,
