Dave, I had my plating done locally. St Louis has a pretty solid
industrial base so I had no problem locating a plater. I used a place called
Areo Metal Finishing (ae-@ilink.com) 636-677-1650. This company caters to
the aviation industry-probably why my costs were double what Mark's are. You
might try looking around in your part of the country in that circle-just a
suggestion. If I can help out, let me know.
Most of us aren't into the volume of production as Mark is. We work
on one machine at a time and try not to mis-place a single component. Mark
has the ability to break down a few parts bikes and have all the hardware
done in one batch. From that point on he has stock in his bins and can
replace hardware at will, throwing the old pieces into the milk crate that
makes up the next batch-recycling at its best! This is the way to do it-with
volume comes discounts.
So collect all the extra Loopframe hardware you can get your hands on.
Pick up the nuts, bolts, and washers that hold the pieces onto the parts
bike you're scavenging from. Combine all that extra hardware with the batch
you're sending to the plater, then you'll start to build up your own
inventory. At the same time you will become an expert at identifying the
original hardware used on old Guzzis, and thus qualify yourself as an
authority on these machines. As I tell my wife, the joy is in the details!
