Mike:
As far as I know the bike is original, but you can never tell.
Everything seems unmodified, I believe that I'm the first one to take it
apart, since it has relatively low miles (40,000 -something). If the
V700's don't have a fork lock, maybe someone at the factory pulled the
wrong spindle from the bin. I can't imagine any reason to replace it.

Hi John...is this the front end that was original to your bike? My V700 is the only one of the front ends I just looked at(5total) that doesn't have the fork lock.... Mike www.classicguzzi.com <http://www.classicguzzi.com> |
John, same with my V7 Special. However, I am convinced, there is a hole in the head spindle for the lock. I assume it got turned with regard to the original working position. I left it as it is, but you could reply whether this is true. ciao Johann Sss '89 Mille GT '70 V7 Secial '56 NSU Max 300 '54 NSU Konsul mit Beiwagen |
Nope, no hole in in the head spindle at all; as Mike says, if some
of the earlier bikes didn't have fork locks perhaps some of the later
ones got fitted with the earlier spindles one way or another. The only
way you'll find out is to go in there after it; a lot of work just to
satisfy your curiosity.
