Well, I finally figured out why the tach on my '71 Ambo didn't work after I replaced a battery that went dead on the road a while back: I installed the battery backwards! The strange thing is that the bike ran fine and got me home that day. I guess it says a lot about the simplicity and durability of these bikes to withstand some of the hamfisted mechanics they're subjected to. I did, however, have the presence of mind to flash the regulator to reverse the polarity before I put the bike back into service.
