I hope this doesn't duplicate. I sent the message yesterday, but never saw
it show up.
Well, I did get a set of 3/8" drive allen wrenches at Autozone. Pulled one
head tonight. (Progress is slow...I'm also remodelling my kitchen after
work. My Eldo has been in boxes for 16yrs).
The cylinder looked good to me. There was a slight film where the rings sat
for too long but it felt smooth to the touch and did clean up a bit when I
wiped it out with solvent.
The top of the piston and inside of the head had a bunch of carbon crud. I
scraped it, brushed it with a wire brush, tooth brush, wiped with solvent,
scraped...etc. The intake valve had an especially pesky deposit of tan
stuff. I worked at it for a while scraping with a brass drift and it
finally all came off.
The valves and a few spots inside the head have slight pitting. I can't
find my valve spring compressor, so I'll probably buy one tomorrow so I can
make sure the seat surfaces are not pitted.
Oh...someone mentioned that the fenders and tank looked flattened on my web
page. I discovered that the aspect ratio on those photos changes as one
resizes the browser...weird.
