Unfortunately this is the latest in the lessons we learned in WWII, Korea and Viet Nam. You can fight an army over geography with bullets and tanks, but you can not win against ideology that way. We could kill every one we thought was against us, but as long as there is one person, living in a cave, who believes we are the enemy, we haven't really won.
In WWII, it was easiest for us to win against the Germans and Italians, because they have similar ideology. We didn't do as well against the Japanese and we didn't win against the Koreans or the Vietnamese, because they fought based on ideology, not geography.
It is more like fighting cockroaches............you gotta stomp everyone you see, and try to smoke out the rest. But it will never end..........
