I have a 69 ambo and just fixed the starter on it this summer. Actually I had a starter guy fix the starter itself - but all he did was install new brush springs. One thing to look for in the starter is to be sure the insulation on the rod that holds the thing together is intact. If not you have to find some sort of plastic that will go over the bolt to insulate it. The solenoid is not difficult to repair. First, unsolder the little wire that sticks out from the body of the solenoid, unscrew the nuts and pull it apart. Inside you will see that there are copper contacts. They are usually gunked up pretty bad. Get in there and clean the hell out of anything that looks copper. Remember that the copper contacts are being slammed together during a starting operation and that sometimes they are slamming into gunk instead of into each copper contact SO IT HAS TO BE REALLY CLEAN INSIDE!! Reassemble, resolder the wire and see what happens. This might not be helpful to you but it sure worked for me and my starter works well now. Good luck, Bob Hawkes ----- Original Message ----- From: Rich Pardo <richp-@hotmail.com> To: <Loopfram-@topica.com> Sent: Saturday, September 01, 2001 11:25 AM Subject: RE: starter for '69 Ambo
