Keith,
Looks to me like your mechanic doesn't know the difference between a 5 speed
and a 4 speed cover. It is a pain to get the spring adjusted right. I found
that by installing the cam screw in the small cover and turning it all the
way in and positioning it at 11 o'clock when looking at the inside of the
small cover and then installing the spring on the shaft and making sure when
you put the 2 parts together that the springs arms are on the outside of
both pins on the shaft and the cam screw. I then back the screw off a little
( not too much) so it is not touching the shaft selector gear. Then the
transmission is put in 2nd gear and everything is fitted back together
carefully. Small minor adjustments are then made by turning the cam screw in
VERY small increments either way till shifting is as perfect as it can be.

Now I'm really confused. I had heard that the Eldo's didn't have access
to the return spring. The Guzzi mechanic told me he installed an Eldo
rear case and throwout bearing, but how can that be if the case still
has the rear access plate? I'm not sure what I've got now, except that
it is a 4-speed! Something doesn't sound right, perhaps the guy
replaced some of the parts but not of the kit parts? Think he did order
it from Moto Int'l though, think he uses them for lots of parts. Will
have to get in touch with him I guess.
Any other ideas?

Keith, The updated cover is the same as the original, except it uses the 22mm throw out bearing. I got mine from Moto International, they came as a kit (cover, throw out bearing, inner body and outer body). I believe they are now selling them on an exchange basis as I managed to buy the last 2 originals a month ago. I looked in the book and the 4 and 5 speed covers are different. The 5 speed shift return spring goes inside the tranny where as the 4 speed has a housing in the rear cover for it.
