Why the spacer? Why not just use a shorter bolt?
Or am I missing something?
For those who wanted to see what the Valeo starter looks like when installed on a loop, here is a link: http://members.home.net/kk8m/guzzi/images/ValeoStarterAmbo.jpg Note the spacer at the top mounting bolt, made from a piece of half-inch rod. I used it so that I would have the option of using either the socket head cap screw (as shown) or a hex head bolt. Also note that I had about 35 minutes work with my Nicholson Swedish Milling Machine to cut away the metal flange so that the spacer and bolt would be able to pass through the mounting hole. (This also means that I had to repaint the starter). The upper mounting hole had to be opened up to 8mm (was previously threaded 8x1.25mm). The fit is very tight with VERY limited clearance for the neutral switch and the clutch cable. The starter does work very well.
