Can anyone tell me what is the purpose of using a relay with the original type switches? Is the original switch gear faulty without the addition of a relay? OR, is it just better to replace the original with something off another bike, as I know is common. Thanks, Tim 73 Eldo projecto slow progresso |
New, the snuff box switches were adequate to handle the current drawn by
headlights or the horn. Add a little corrosion and they will overheat.
The relay only draws a fraction of an amp, much more comfy for these old
classics. When you turn on the switch it turns on the relay. The relay
has high capacity contacts that turn on the headlight or whatever.
I'm still using snuff boxes with no relays--no problems so far, but I did
recently dissassemble and clean the contacts. The relays are waiting to
be installed though.
