I was fortunate that my valve guides were witin tolerance. They do,
however make sleeves for the guides. The place that I got the valve job
done showed them to me. My Ambo hasn't been abused, it has just sat
way to long. The cylinders went to Hell because the bike sat and the=20
original chrome fused the pistons. Here's where the luck comes in. I
fortunately have a friend who's family owns an engine machine shop. I
go in on Saturdays and Sundays and do what I need to.=20

Tim,
Hey good luck on this. Super way to get acquainted with the Ambo. I am
interested in your experience with reworking the heads. I suspect I
have
leaking valve guides.
Did you do the work yourself?? I read in Guzziology that the original
guide bushing were no longer available and it was suggested to have the
entire valve guide replacement work done by a shop.=20
My local Guzzi shop doesn't even have a mechanic for the late model
machines, let alone the old iron.
Just trying to get an idea of how to go about it when I pull the heads
off.

Thanks
Pete

Hi all,

I e-mailed the group a while back describing the Ambo 750 I purchased
for $200.00. I've been=20
working on the bike and currently I'm in the middle of the engine
rebuild. I purchased cylinder=20
kits and have reworked the heads. This weekend I'll be bluepriting (
checking dimensional specs)
to see how much machine work needs to be done so I can obtain the proper
bearings and bushings.
I need to find a timing gear cover if possible. It seems that the
previous owner may have used incorrect=20
bolts through the belt pulley. The bolts were to long and they gouged
the gear cover leaving a bad=20
interface for the crank seal. It can possibly be reworked if necessary.
I would also like to know where=20
the best place is to pick-up items normally needed for a rebuild. The
bike has set ideal since 1984. I
need to replace all the gaskets and seals from the rear-drive to the
fork seals. The last item(s) that I need are a generator, regulator,
generator holding straps and fasteners.=20
The group has been a great help so far and I really appreciate it.
