I know we're done rappin' 'bout this but.... betcha 10 bucks he didn't
cut them down enough. Edge of the spring is(was) scraping the inside of
the case. I have a few evidence marks of my own in there.
1st try of putting the cover on didnt work 'cause the spring extended
over onto the gasket surface.
2nd try, hard shifting, cut the spring even more, Shifter was good then,
well not really(previous threads), BUT THE SPRING, was good.
See Ya

 Kev,

I'm not sure what is up. He got it to fit by grinding down the arms but

he said it was real tight and made the shifter real hard to push. I'll
hold onto it for when the double wounder decides to bust again.

Andy,

Appreciate the invite. Ian has mentioned this rally (Adirondack rally,
correct?) a few times. Think I will be able to make it, have to check
my calendar with my wifes. What I may do is bring the whole family up
with our camper. Is there a place nearby or at the campsite you are
working on that has a full hookup site (water, sewer, electric)? I'll
have to see if I can coax my wife into driving the van up with trailer
in tow while I and my neighbor Cam ride up on our Loops, my 71 Police
Ambo, his 74 Police Eldo. His wife will probably be driving up in the
van with my wife and our 2 kids. Else, I'll try to get away alone for
the weekend.....

 Keith,
Yeh, The arms on my YOU KNOW WHAT were too long also. Nothing a Dremal
couldn't fix. After everything was said and done the Ambo shifts great,
even
better than before. Don,t know what your mechanic is saying about havin'

to
be a gorilla to shift. Works great.

Got good news from my mechanic, the "You know what" didn't actually
break. He explained to me that there is some sort of adjuster on it
that was out of adjustment which broke loose the spring. He did try to
fit the new style 3 wound spring but couldn't get it to work, said the
arms are too long to fit. He did cut them to make it fit, but then said
I would have had to have been hercules to shift as the tension on the
shifter was massive. Surprised no one else had these problems? As for
the oil leak, he said it is gear oil and it is coming from a spot where
there is supposed to be oil, not from between the cases where I thought
it was coming from (main seal, etc..). There is a stripped bolt that is
causing this leak, so he is working on the fix now. He is also going to
go through and fine tune everything as the timing appears to be off a
bit, valves out of proper adjustment, and a basic re-look at everything.
Go figure as this was all supposed to have been done by a Guzzi
mechanic with 28 years experience. Last trip to that shop! Oh, and the
gen is bad, regulator seems to be working ok. He is going to rework it,
clean her all up and get her working top notch again. Hope this all
ends all of the problems for a lonnnnnnnnnng time!

Should be road ready again early next week, too bad though as I have now
missed "Italian Bike Night" and tonight was a m/c only cruise night
along the beach with a peoples choice bike judging award. Don't think
too many folks around here know what a Moto Guzzi is, nevertheless what
a police Ambassador is!! O well, guess I gotta wait till next year.....
