Pete, The only thing I do preiodically is make sure it's still charging, by putting a voltmeter on the battery, bringing the engine up to 2000 rpm - 3500rpm. As long as it's putting out high 13's( over 14V even better) I don't worry about it. When my generator bracket cracked, it burnt out the bearing in there, that was replaced. Haven't had any problems so far. -----Original Message----- From: Scheer, Peter L [mailto:plsc-@tycoelectronics.com] Sent: Tuesday, June 19, 2001 2:55 PM To: 'Loopfram-@topica.com' Subject: Generator rebuild advice ============================================================ The best bargains are just a click away. Because of very slow cranking speed, I opened up the starter and cleaned up the armature and sprayed it down with the contact cleaner as recommend on the list. Starter works much better now. So now I am wondering, the generator is very much like the starter with armature and winding etc. If the starter needed to be freshened up, maybe the generator does too? Any experience, with maintenance frequency on these? are they pretty trouble free or what? I'll probably tear into it during the winter anyway, just want to see if I should do it sooner. Want to minimize down time especially since the weather has become balmy in central PA Thanks Pete 71 Ambo |
