So I finally gathered the stuff I needed to tear apar the 4 speed tranny.
Got seals, springs, etc. As well as the stuff I forgot to get to reassemble
the clutch post-front and main seal replacement.

I had borrowed some of the special tools needed for clutch, main seal
replacement and then returned the seal placement tool to get the tranny
tools. I don't like to have more borrowed bits than I need at any given
time.

So I was all set to lock myself in the garage for all of thursday night and
get it all done.

Alas.

I got the flywheel in place. New bolts locktite and happy.

The I started degreasing the clutch bits. The friction disks are just barely
thick enough. But money is tight and so I just figured to get by for the
summer.

Well as I cleaned, I took a good look at the splines. very very pointy. Then
I looked at the input hub. sagging teeth like an old speed junky. not good.
SO as I was resigning myself to a few more bucks for new friction disks...I
thought I would investigate my other two motors. The Ambo motor had dentata
just as trashed. But the Eldo chunk I dragged home from an alley a couple
years ago revealed good solid teeth. The removing the ring gear revealed and
brand spanking new clutch. You could still see the impring of the
manufacturers logo on the friction material. Bonded, no rivet. yeeehhaaa!

Excited, I started to get the clutch assembled. uh oh. I think I know now
that the tool I returned is used not only to seat the main seal but to
compress the clutch....

feh. Back to the shop to re-borrow the tool.

It being late, I decided to stop there.

Except for the tranny.

I dicked around with the layshaft nut and then resorted to borrowing the
tool for it. I may not have needed it. Once I knocked the tooth back from
the nut I barely needed to exert any force to loosen the nut.

Kinda funny really. I was expecting a set up like a BMW tranny that takes
like triple digit foot-pounds to remove the layshaft nut. I was ready for a
fight and got none.

Whee.
Tonight I replace the clutch and seals in the tranny. tomorrow I fix the
leaking carb and try to mate a BMW /5 speedo with the bike.
