Okay, here ya go. I don't know what kind of rider you are, and since all =
I know is that you have an Ambo, I don't know what motorcycles you own =
to "try" to discern for myself what kind of rider you are from what you =
own. So here goes my best attempt to give you a fair appraisal. I have =
six motorcycles in my garage. A'73 Eldo, a '74 V7 Sport, an '87 LeMans, =
a '96 Ducati 900SS and the '99 Suzuki SV650. Will I ever sell the =
Eldo.....maybe. Will I sell the V7 Sport or '87 LeMans.....never on the =
first and unlikely on the 2nd. Will I ever sell the Honda.....maybe. =
Will I sell the Ducati.....probably. Will I ever sell the =
SV650......yes. Point is, like is all too often talked about on this =
Moto Guzzi list, there is the issue of the character of a motorcycle and =
its desirability. There are certain bikes in my garage that are =
particularly nice examples of that model, and I will probably never part =
with them. =20
However, when I go to the garage wanting to go for a ride, more often =
than not I lean toward the SV650. Every time I ride it, I am amazed at =
what a competent, fun motorcycle it is for $5,500. I have dragraced a =
V10 Centauro Sport and won. It is a very attractive bike. I have put a =
Ducati Monster fairing on it, painted to match the Suzuki. I have had =
Sargent modify the seat. I have put a Two Brothers slip-on on the bike. =
If you are a race fan, you know that the SV650 kicks ass on the =
racetrack. I have what is called the naked version, the one with the =
standard superbike type handlebars, vs the one with the clipons and =
TL1000 type fairing. It is amazingly light and nimble. It is my wife's =
bike and she has ridden 1,800 miles in 4 days on it in total comfort. =
She said when she got home from the ride, the last leg of which was a =
ride from Illinois to Pittsburgh non-stop, that she could have kept =
going. I love to ride this bike. It has 6 position adjustable front =
brake lever, dual front discs that are better than any Guzzi brakes I =
have ever tried, a motor that has a top speed of 139mph and turns 11's =
in the quarter mile.....pretty good for a 650cc twin! Does it have the =
suspension of a $16,000 Ducati 996 or Aprilia Mille, no. It has non =
adjustable forks. I put different fork oil in them and a slightly =
different preload, and I am very happy with them. It has a preload =
adjustable rear shock. If you are a sportbike guy and want to tune the =
suspension, you probably want to get the front forks RaceTech'ed with =
emulators, and the rear shock replaced with a Penske or Fox or Ohlins. =
However, I am a bit of a sportbike guy myself, and can ride the Suzuki =
just about as hard and aggressively as I can with my Ducati in the fast =
sweeper stuff, and faster in the tight stuff. The bonus is that the =
Suzuki riding position and lightness is sooo much more comfortable and =
user friendly. It's easy to ride this bike. I think it is the best =
bike in my garage from a competence and fun standpoint.
If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask.

The Western NY Rally was outstanding. Todd & Brenda and the crew =
did just a marvelous job of offering hospitality to all. All of us =
rallygoers really appreciate your efforts! It was a great time with =
good people and just wonderful weather. Of course, Mother Nature did =
have to send a brief downpour our way in the middle of the night, =
despite forecasts of ZERO rain, just to show us who's boss, but during =
the daytime hours the weather was perfect. Again, thanks for the great =
New York hospitality for all of you who worked so hard.=20
Finally, for those loopers out there.......I think that loopframes =
may have outnumbered any other model in attendance at this rally. =
Whadda ya think?
