I used a sigma (if I recall) on my BMW. It needed a maximum of 5mm petween
the magnet and the sensor. I mounted the sensor on the forkleg and the
magned I glued to a penny and that went onto a mounting bolt for the brake
rotor.
The problem is that the guzzi drums (which 90% of us have) don't offer a
nice flat rotating surface like a disk does. I would suggest getting
creative. With enough wire from radio shack, you should be able to run the
sensor to the back wheel. so maybe on the inside of the dirve shaf housing
with the magnet on the wheel rim? Or on the front fender mount with the
magnet on the wheel rim? you might have to make a block to get the pickup in
close enough. a little wood, some carving and clear silicone sealer will fix
that. remember on the front forks you have to leave some slack in the wires.
the bikes weight compresses the springs a little. a good hard bump will
unspring and rip the wires loose. don't bother with spoke mounted magnets.
MC spokes are much too thick. you want one that has a good flat surface to
get some glue under it so you don't fling the thing off into the weeds as
you discover that when you thought you were doung 80 you were really doing
90.......
mostly you need to look at:
how it mounts on the bars. Mine clips in and out of a small cradle
the information it holds - mine goes to 100 (I think) and holds other
incriminating evidence...but holding down one big button for 3 seconds
erases that from the memory.
do the instructions deal with MC sized wheels? most bicycle wheels are
bigger right?
how the magnet and pickup mount. look at the instructions and the peices and
picture the whole shebang on your bike. I was lucky and the bicycle shop guy
was pretty helpful and let me paw through a ton of them before I found what
I wanted.
Oddly enough, I picked a spoke mount magnet, knowing that it would not fit.
It had more give (5mm as opposed ot 2) and the thickness of the magnet, even
after carving the spoke clip off, meant only using a penny to get it close
enough to register.
I'll look at the model tonight

I was told of a brand called Sigma which may work. My problem was that I could not get the sensor close enough to the magnet...usually they need to be 1-2 mm apart to work. The Sigma's sensor and magnet are supposed to work further apart, thus possibly facilitating mounting it on my loop. What brands have y'all who have done this used and how did ya mount it? I'd love to see exactly how fast I'm going! Cheers! Chris in NC
