I am fitting a cush drive from an 850-T onto my Ambo. I went to assemble
it on the bike today and found that all was fine until I tightened the
axle nut into its last turn. The hub went from being easily rotated to
solidly bound up with lots of ring and pinion noise. It seems that there
is not enough clearance in between the rear end spline socket (pinion
ring carrier) and the drive spline on the cush drive. I checked the
wheel bearings by installing a temporary spacer on the axle and they
were fine. Reassembled the cush hub on the bike, same problem. I put a
washer in between the outer right side spacer and the right wheel
bearing, cranked the axle nut good and tight, voila', spins free as a
bird.
Is this a common problem? Seems kind of odd since the right side spacer
for the T and the Ambo appear to be identical. Any suggestions as to how
to fix this problem before I decide to braze a washer to the inboard end
of the axle spacer?
