Rick,

I'm not sure what to make of your cure of touching a positive lead to
both the distributor and line sides of the coil. If you went to the
distributor side I'd be surprised if you didn't blow a fuse (provided
you had one in the jumper you used) or smoke the points, unless you
lucked out and they were open when you did it. Sounds to me like you
have an intermittent connection in the keyswitch or the ignition
circuit, or pitted points maybe?

Is it possible your starter locked up? I had a problem with my starter
which appears to have been a corroded wire connecting to it. Wire
actually acted like a resistor and wouldn't let the juice go to the
starter. Check that your battery wires and connections to the starter
are clean and free of corrosion. If it was definitely a battery
discharge problem, not sure.

Figures, I have riden the bike all over town the past 2 weeks and got
confident enough not to need the cell phone, well needed the phone. I
shut the bike off to go into the PO couldn't get the stamps outa the
machine (didn't like the new $10 bill) came out and the bike wouldn't
crank. Bummed a ride home as the wife wouldn't ansew the damn phone.
Went bat to get the bike applied direct battery voltage to each side of
the coil and she fired up again, and has cranked every time since I got
her home.
Anybody got any idea on what needs to be replaced coil or condenser has
my vote probably ought to break down and tune her up.
