This brings a question to my mind. My 71 seems to have no throttle return spring. It stays where I twist the throttle. Where should the return spring be?
Thanks all

Rich- Frank Wedge (I think it was him anyway) details in a past MGNOC |
newsletter
| about a $2 cruise control he made from string and a spring hooked |
between
| his rear view mirror and throttle. That would help you with keeping the rpm's at the point you need. If I can find the issue, I'll let you know and mail a copy of the article if ya want.
Enjoy! Chris in NC '74 Eldo civ.

In my never ending habit of doing first things last I decided to give a shot at checking the timing on my Ambassador after my eight |
|
months
|
| of ownership. It has always had a slight ping at low speeds so I figured |
maybe
| the timing was retarded a bit. Checked the points which were set fine. |
|
So
| I
| need to find 2,200 RPM to check advance. No tach just a Speedo. So I |
break
| out my 20 year old engine analyzer and hook it up from memory as the manual has long since left my ownership. Red positive, black ground and green |
|
to
| | the coil to distributor wire. So I have settings for 4, 6, or 8 |
|
cylinders
| | and well what do I use? The setting for 8 appeared to be close but is there some kind of math involved in using this thing on a 2 cylinder vehicle? Anybody know settings or any conversion needed to do this? I did manage |
to
| get it to not start for a while and then found a 'sweet' spot where it seems to run a little better than before. But I would like to get it right. Should I go seek out a new analyzer or does someone know how this works. |
|
Next
| | question is how do you guys hold the RPMs steady while holding the |
|
timing
| | light in the cramped position behind the front wheel and turn the distributor all at the same time by yourselves? Rich
