Pete,
Everyones explanations about a relay in your wiring is good. I had problems
with my tinderbox also which made the headlight unreliable; sometimes the
thing would not go on at all and sometimes quit in the middle of a ride. (No
tickets yet!) What I did to remedy the situation was to clean all contacts
in the fuse block including the fuses themselves. Then I took the tinderbox
apart and cleaned it. It was full of oily dirt. I brightened up all the
contacts in the tinderbox and sprayed on electrical contact cleaner (Radio
Shack stuff). Then I left the headlight switch on all the time. When I
start the bike the light is on. This eliminates using the on/off headlight
switch. I have had no problems since this. Best, Bob Hawkes, 69 Ambo.

It all makes sense with the explanations. I just never saw a relay |
BTW I have just installed a Kawasaki switch ( couldn't find the preferred Yamaha) with the headlight "on " permanently. I'll put the relay on the "to do " list. Its snowing today in Pennsylvania, painted the rear fender yesterday. |
the paint booth in the shop at work. Also kluged together a pair of experimental grab rails from some scrap tubing. Have at least learned how to use the tube bender. Its been fun Cheers! Pete
