Hi Frank and all,
Here is what I know so far:
As far as the repairing of the fiberglass my painter told me that regular
old bondo putty (auto body putty) would work fine. And he said that painting
up the fiberglass would be no different than any other kind of painting. I
suppose in painter's terms that means as long as you have the right paint
and have preped the surface properly any decent painter can shoot a decent
job.
One of the problems that I think needs to be corrected is on the lid. I find
that as the lid opens it binds with the ridge around the top. Also, the
locks seem to be in poor shape and I would love to either get replacements
(if they still make them) or something that looks like the originals. I have
also thought about using some other kind of fasening system but I have yet
to find anything that would suit the look.
All this thinking and searching takes time and that is why I am out
searching for someone that has restored these type bags. I figure that the
experience learned on one could easily be applied to mine and yours.
Certainly I would mind paying for that knowledge. And I know someone out
there can do it. I have seen some very nice restored bags.
Regards....Ian
