When I did that to my Eldo, I had a hell of a time too. I found that if you
take the carbs off before removing the manifold, its a lot easier...and vice
versa, mount the manifolds to the bike, then put the carbs on them. The
bike's weight give you something to work against. It's still a lot of
pushing and twisting, but it works. WD-40 helps too. They are tight!!!
Also, re-tighten everything again (and again!) after they're on the bike.
Mine ran lke s@#! right after the rebuild...turns out the slide tops were a
tiny bit loose, even though they felt tight before.

I stripped the carbs off the Ambo, disassembled them, and let them
soak overnight in carb cleaner. They were a bear to get off of the manifolds
(a lot of twisting and pulling). But they are also awful tight getting back
on. The clamps have the screw taken out. I went over the manifold with some
emery cloth and made sure the inside of the plastic (?) bushing was clean
and smooth. I tried spreading the mouth of the carb a little but didn't want
to break anything. I tried spraying some WD40 on the manifold but I am still
having trouble getting them back on. Any tricks out there?
