Aprilia S.p.A. held a press conference at Intermot to officially announce
the Aprilia group family of motorcycle marques, which now includes Moto
Guzzi and Laverda. According to CEO Ivano Beggio, big plans are in the works
for Guzzi, although the fabled Italian brand will, for the time being, stay
the traditional course that has seen its evolution toward the type of V-twin
power that is currently utilized in the V11 Sport and its cruiser-styled
siblings.
In a statement released to the press, Beggio stated that "Moto Guzzi
represents an enormous wealth of image for the Italian motorcycle around the
world. The Mandello del Lario facilities will continue to be used to
manufacture motorcycles inspired by the tradition and class that has always
distinguished all Guzzi motorcycles. Tested and functional technology will
be joined by the highest level of overall reliability and quality; from the
smallest components, to service."
As if to emphasize the point, Moto Guzzi pulled the wraps off its V11 Sport
Rosso Mandello, a limited-edition version of the V11 Sport, highlighted by
its flashy red paint, cylinder heads that appeared to be powdercoated in red
as well, and trick carbon fiber fenders and headlight fairing.
As for the distant future of the marque, Beggio said during the press
conference that change will come, even though not right away.
"It is feasible that we will develop a new engine within the next two or
three years from which new models will emerge," Beggio said. "Obviously,
with a brand as historic as Moto Guzzi, there are several famous models from
which to draw inspiration."
