I put a black box from Boyer Bransdon on my '72. It was triggered by
the points and was supposed to eliminate the scorching and pitting of
the points. I had previously put a hot coil in and it was eating up my
points.
Worked great for a year or so and then began to play up. The bike still
got me to work but there was hesitation etc. I thought it was a clogged
jet.
The sucker packed it in on the far side of the Queensboro bridge and I
had to coast to Manhattan. The future Mrs. Washburn was not pleased.
She requires 100% reliability from her transportation and there was
grumbling as she hailed a cab and I effected a roadside repair:
(1) Remove stupid black box.
(2) Rewire points to stock.
(3) Push start unhappy Eldo which then ran perfectly.
I have a dual point distributor in my project bike so I will run Dyna
everything. Doubtless it will strand me some day in East @$$#*!= and I
will rue the day I switched.
Idle hands are the devils playthings,
