I had that "eyebrow" whaped wear on my Ambo, I think
the darker color that shows through the chrome is the
aluminium underneath. Obviously, aluminum won't
withstand very much wear! So I decided to replace it:
once you have if apart to look a the wear, there
doesn't seem to be much point in reassembling it
without making a lasting repair. So in my opion your
options are sleaving or getting the new cylinders. I
chose the nickasil, since it is supposed to be good
for 200,000 miles or so and runs cooler. The
difference in price, once you factor in the new rings
you will need to run an iron sleve, didn't seem
significant enough to merit the cheeper repair. M-G
Cycle has the best price I could find on Nickasil
cylinder/piston/ring sets, includes new wrist pins and
circlips, too. ~300 a side, bolts togeather real easy,
should be a one-time investment.
