I can't disagree that you should do a good analysis prior to attempting a
fix but if the problem was a bad ground wouldn't there be other other
indicators like other electrical devices not working?

Agreed but when they do the symptoms of the failure are very obvious. I had
two failures (one on my bike and the other in my 64 Valiant). In each case
the symptoms were almost identical.
I'm off to the National........we can beat this issue to death there :-)
