I bought the velorex 562 earlier this year, mounted it up the night I
bought it and took my very first ride with a sidecar the next morning to
work. On the way home, the universal brackets slipped a bit, got
surprised by a right curve and went veering off the left side of the
road fully airborne into a freshly plowed farm field. Must have been a
good 50 yards before I stopped! Sat there for a second then turned
around and rode back out with a new respect for the rig.
I then took a piece of aluminum C-channel and u-bolted it underneath to
the Eldo frame and rig frame. Frame heights from the ground were near
perfect. That made everything easier to line up. Then I tried police
bars and block tires which helped considerably. Tire wear was nice and
even. It's still much more work than a leading link or two wheels but I
have done some high mileage days with it. Arms felt like rubber!
I wore the rear out so I decided to try 4:00-18 trials tires. Like the
early 70s enduros had. I also cut up an old fork spring and added a one
inch piece to each leg. Got rid of the sag but I did need to realign the
rig a bit. The tires don't feel like they grip as good but I think they
will wear well with the tall knobs on them. It sure gives the bike a
look!

John, tell us a little about this sidecar experience, did you change or modify the front end? If so how and if not so, how does it handle with a stock front end? |
