Subject: Rear Drive ratios
The Ambo (4 spd) rear drive is 8/35, or a ratio of 4.375. The Eldo rear drive (5 spd) rear drive is 8/37, or a ratio of 4.625. Primary gearing in 4 spd tranny is 16/22, or 1.375. In a 5 spd it is |
or 1.235. Putting the 4 spd rear in a 5 spd bike drop rpms, and make starting off a clutch-slipping proposition. Putting the 5 spd rear in a 4 spd bike would raise rpms, and make pulling a sidecar, or 300 lb wife an easy task! That would make overall gearing in first 14.186, and in 4th, 4.769. Exactly the ratios of a V7. regards, Eppa |
