I tried for a week to take mine apart (before it's untimely demise)...how is
it done? I guess I'm overlooking something obvious.

Had mine apart a few weeks back. Came appart real easy
- just start taking it apart and you will figure it
out no problem. It is a very simple button, not much
to fix inside, but I cleaned some corrosion out of
mine.
